Ductless mini split air conditioning systems are relatively new on the scene. As such, there are some myths circulating about these systems’ supposed downfalls that are ripe for debunking.

At A/C King Inc., we offer ductless HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance in Fontana, Riverside, San Bernardino, and throughout the Inland Empire. These systems may be just what your home or business needs to keep cool in our hot Southern California summers.

Myth #1) Ductless Mini Split Units Cool Rooms Unevenly

One of the big problems with old window-mounted AC units is that they cool rooms unevenly. Their cooling effect is strong near the unit, but the air they blast out has trouble seeping into the far corners of rooms.

If you’ve heard that wall-mounted mini-split units have the same problem, you’ve heard wrong. These units do a better job of cooling the entire room than old window-mounted units. They can also be adjusted to different temperatures for different rooms. Technically, this is “uneven cooling” when you consider the whole house, but within rooms, temperatures are even and comfortable.

Myth #2) Ductless Mini Split Units Provide Bad Air Quality

One myth about ductless mini-split units is that they circulate bacteria, dust, dirt, and spores around your space. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Mini-splits contain filters to clean your air.

These filters are much easier to clean than the filters in a ducted system. With central air, you need to hire an HVAC technician to blow dust and debris out of your ducts. With mini split units, you can just clean the filter yourself with soap and water.

Myth #3) Ductless Mini Split Units Can Only Be Installed in New Construction

Just like Myths #1 and 2, this is the opposite of the truth. Central air is best to install in new construction since the design of the building can take the location of ducts and vents into account. It’s much more difficult to install in old buildings because it involves knocking out walls and ceilings.

Ductless mini splits, on the other hand, are perfect for both new and old construction. If you live in an old house without central air, mini splits are a great solution for cooling your home without needing to install complex ductwork.
